After clinical examination (and an x-ray scan if needed), the implant is placed in two steps:
- Local anesthesia is administered in the dental operating room. It takes an average of thirty minutes to place the implant.
- Once the implant has been placed, two to six months of recovery may be required, depending on the patient, before dental work may be placed. This recovery time allows osteointegration (i.e. connection between the implant and the living bone).
With 5% to 10% of patients, dental work may be placed at the same time as the implants.
Our dental office is equipped with state-of-the-art software to simulate placement of implants.
For the vast majority of patients, placing implants is a painless procedure.
